Family. Friends. Food. Football. In my book, there isn’t much better than Thanksgiving! But that doesn’t mean it’s an easy occasion to dress for. The dress code of Thanksgiving gatherings can run the gamut from PJs to formal attire, but most families find their groove somewhere in between. I like to call it comfy chic. That’s why I have a fool-proof method of dressing for Thanksgiving that combines casual staples with rich textures for perfect holiday style.
Let’s face it: We all over-eat on Thanksgiving. That’s why I love a great pair of leggings to start my Thanksgiving look. In order to pump up a basic legging, I love choosing a pair in leather or velvet, like these Ruff Hewn GREY stunners. Next, I added an anything-but-basic white shirt, thanks to ruffle details and a longer length. Topping it off with a cashmere blend sweater adds more casual yet posh piece to the look. With the temps dropping every day, it’s vital to also bring a coat — and I love a coat that makes a bold statement. This Calvin Klein coat is a fabulous play on textures, from menswear chic tweed to the luxe lambs wool collar. Plus, I love the combination of cashmere, cotton, tweed and velvet for a perfect play of texture and neutral colors.
With four distinct clothing pieces, the accessories take the form of frosting on a very fabulous cake. I chose a fun burgundy calf hair shopper from Ralph Lauren, since I love a touch of color and also a large enough handbag to stuff in a few Thanksgiving leftovers! A pair of sleek boots lend an air of sophistication to the look — but make sure to bring a pair of cute slipper socks for post-dinner couch time. Embellished earrings finish the look with just a hint of sparkle.
Once you find your perfect level of comfort and chic, you too can create your go-to holiday look. Whether it’s denim, a tee and a blazer; a sweater dress and tights; or my leggings and cashmere combo, it’s all about feeling beautiful and beyond comfy. That way, your pumpkin pie won’t be the only thing earning praise this Thanksgiving!
