Is there anything more inherently feminine than a beautiful blouse? From subtle details to bold allover statements like ruffles, bows, smocking and applique, a good blouse can be an outfit’s supporting player or its shining star. Plus, blouses have a wonderful versatility that allow you to create various outfits with one key piece and dozens of pairing options. Here’s a look at how I styled one of my favorite blouses of the season — with a vintage approach.

The Outfit

This sheer tie-neck blouse by Michael Kors has such a great vintage vibe that I had to play it up to create a posh ’40s-inspired look. The blouse, which comes with its own built-in camisole, is sexy yet polished, making it a great choice for both the office or date night. I paired it with one of my favorite skirts this season, a metallic pleated midi skirt by Ruff Hewn GREY. This skirt, which is fabulously comfortable, is flattering in a cute A-line style that makes it a great match for chunky knit sweaters, turtlenecks, tees and of course, blouses. And the metallic tone is unexpected yet not too loud.

To top off the look, I chose an oversized boyfriend coat from Vera Wang, which looks luxe on the shoulders or in its intended fashion. Because the skirt is fitted at the waist, the tucked-in blouse gives a more tailored effect, and allows for an oversized coat to be worn but not overpower your frame. All in all, it’s one chic look!

The Accessories

There’s a lot going on with this look — a metallic pleated skirt, a sheer blouse with a tie neck and a menswear chic coat — so the accessories needed to work with the look, not compete with it. That’s a whole lotta texture!

To that end, I added a fun pair of jeweled hoop earrings and a silver bracelet for just a hint of sparkle. For the shoes, I wanted to play up the vintage vibe, so I chose black patent leather heels with an intricate lace-up design. So gorgeous!

And last but definitely not least, this Coach satchel, boasting an embellished front with quilting details, is the “it” handbag for fall/winter 2016. If I had to name one single thing that makes this look come together, it’s definitely that bag — swoon!

This season, pick up a few blouses to work into your holiday party rotation. They are a fab mix-and-match with skirts and pants alike, and can be topped off with your favorite jacket, sweater or coat. And don’t forget that statement handbag to bring your look perfectly together.
