I distinctly remember going shopping for Independence Day outfits as a child, and trying to pick out the most patriotic items I could find–if that meant pattern clashing in the name of being the most red, white, and blue-decked out kid around, then so be it. Now that I’m older (and have a more developed sense of style), I tend to stray away from the intensely patriotic clothing items in favor of red, white, and blue pieces I can mix and match, and wear again long after the 4th. I came across this Americana paisley dress, and knew it would be perfect for Independence day and beyond. All it took was some accessorizing to create a fashionable, not overly-patriotic look to rock at your upcoming 4th of July shindig.

I chose to go with some heeled strappy sandals to complete this look because it adds a girly element and takes the dress up a notch, but you could easily swap them out for some sneakers or flat sandals for a backyard BBQ. Since the print of the dress is so strong, I chose to omit a necklace and stack on two cuff bracelets instead. The sunnies have a hint of blue in the frame, to tie everything together.

If you’re worried about not being able to express your personal style on the 4th, I hope this look gives you some inspiration. I promise there are fashionable 4th of July outfits out there!
