Let’s admit it: Sometime winter dressing can get a little boring. Clothing often lacks color, due to the fact that snow and sleet tend to wreak havoc on any hue other than black or gray. We often skip the “cute shows” for furry boots and layers of socks. Plus, it’s easy to lose your personal style — and yourself! — when you’re wearing a bulky coat, dodging the cold on a daily basis.
But there is an upside. Too chilly in your favorite dress? Try one with long sleeves. Bored with black? Posh it up with a fun black and white floral print. So over layering? Try other way to add volume, like through a fun ruffle or bell sleeve. Let’s take a look at how I amped up my latest winter look, thanks to one fab dress by Michael Kors.
There’s something about an interesting sleeve that gets me every time. And this Michael Kors frock had me at the cuff. A fun ruffle cuff adds volume and luxe to any look, and this dress is no exception. The allover black and white floral print is flattering and chic — and could easily be broken up with a cool obi belt. The key to an allover print dress with long sleeves looking fab not drab is a hint of skin. In this case, that’s all about the perfect mid-thigh length of the dress. If you want to change up the look, add a cropped leather or fur jacket or a sophisticated wrap coat to finish the look.
When it comes to allover print, I am all about a strong earring. These Relativity stunners echo the luxe vibe of the dress and add a hint of sparkle, right where it’s needed most. Because of the ruffle sleeve, there’s no need for bracelets. But a necklace — that’s your own personal choice. I love the idea of going super trendy with several layered necklaces to really shine or simply adding a simple metallic choker. I wanted the earrings and dress to be the star of the show, so I kept the jewelry simple and the dress eclectic. A classic d’Orsay pump from Ralph Lauren and a must-have faux croc shoulder bag from Michael Kors — with a lust-worthy chain strap — finish this look to wintery perfection.
Whether you let the dress sing with simple accessories, or go for the luxest look with layers of jewelry, dressing up (or down) your perfect winter dress is a great way to express your personal style in an otherwise dreary month. But remember — the holidays may be over, but Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! xoxo
