So often when women purchase dresses, our number one concern is fit. Does this look good on me? Is this right for my body type? This is an understandable concern, but it can also lead to choosing dresses that we don’t necessarily love. While fit is a very important part of the equation, we should never underestimate the attributes of a dress that make it special. The color, the texture, the applique — all of these things converge to create a dresses unique style. That’s why I look for dresses I love first, then worry about the fit after.
This Michael Kors frock, for example, is a standout piece in a shape I wouldn’t normally choose. But once I tried it on, and took one look at the unique texture and color, I realized the dress fit me well and was a holiday show-stopper. I almost always choose black, but I have to admit, navy is not only wonderfully unexpected but it makes my blue eyes pop. The metallic threading detail and shine of the material give the dress an ethereal glow that is guaranteed to get noticed. I also love the fact that it’s ankle-length, so it shows off your favorite shoes.
Speaking of shoes, I decided to play up the boho chic nature of this dress by pairing it with blue suede ankle boots. Opting for boots is a great way to add a bit of cool-girl chic to your holiday dress. I decided to really play up the mixing of textures in this look by adding a satin clutch with jeweled applique. A simple gold earring adds just enough shine to capture the sparkling spirit of this dress.
In the case of this holiday dress, I am all about more is more. An unexpected color, shiny fabric, jeweled clutch and bold blue suede boots combine to create one fabulous holiday party look!
