Mom’s Day: Celebrate the Mom Who Loves to Decorate!

Your mom is one-of-a-kind, so celebrate what makes her great. We've got everything you need to find the perfect Mom's Day gift for the decor-loving mom!

Mom's Day: Celebrate the Mom that Loves to Decorate

Today we celebrate the mom who knows what shes loves, and is an inspiration to us all! Our featured mom is Terry, Mom to Sarah, who works on our digital marketing team. Terry loves to decorate, can’t get enough of playing tennis and spending time with her family. Sarah glows about her mom, and any chance she gets she’s giving her praise. Terry lights up any room she walks in, is always a ray of sunshine and sees the positive in everything. There is no doubt Sarah is her daughter :)

We asked Terry to reminisce about her most memorable Mom’s Day, and our hearts melted!

“Mikey, my son, wrapped up empty boxes and gave them to me for Mother’s Day one year”

“Another Mother’s Day, I received a little planter from Kristin, my daughter, with grass growing in it- it was the sweetest gesture!”

We also asked if she remembered any silly moments from when her kids were younger:

“Mikey once slipped carrying in groceries and two entire gallons of milk spilled all over our mudroom! The phrase ‘don’t cry over spilled milk’ means much more to me now!”

What to Wear: Spring Lunch Date

Trade in your flirty dress for a sophisticated yet stunning separates look for a lunchtime date.

These pretty spring separates work well together for a sophisticated lunch date look. The volume of the jacket yearns for a sleek counterpart, and this does-it-all closet staple pant is balanced perfection. The structure of this posh cape calls for a feminine and romantic floral blouse, with a bit of soft flow I love this outfit; it’s office appropriate yet fun and flirty — with a modern edge. Bright white for spring is one of my absolute favorite style statements

blog-divider8While dresses and skirts tend to be a date night go-to, lunch dates are different animal all together. With lunch dates gaining popularity in recent years — both with your longtime love or a new friend from Match.com — it can be a challenge to go from workwear sophistication to lunch date chic. That’s why I love this outfit; it’s office appropriate yet fun and flirty — with a modern edge. Let’s tale a look at what makes it work.

Tips on Being a Grandma

Parenting is wonderful, but now as a Grandma, I have love to give with less hassle than being the parent. No more tough love!

As you go thru life, remember the small things because as you get older, they are the big things: hugging your parents, telling your kids you love them , spending time talking about the day at the dinner table, supporting family in all their endeavors—your dog licking your face- sitting by the beach and watching the sunset,  picnics with friends and family, planting a pumpkin patch for the Grandkids, having your Grandson help you fill the bird feeders, these are the big things.

It’s time to have fun, ignore the handprints on the wall, be carefree and spoil the Grandkids! You will even feel younger!!!

Favorite memories of being a Grandma

The birth of her grandkids: My husband, daughter and I waited patiently at the hospital  for Addy to be born. Sometime later, a nurse came out and directed us to the room, where we would meet this miraculous addition to our family. As we walked down the hall, we suddenly heard a baby crying very loudly!!!! I looked at them and said, do you think that could be our baby? It sure was! This was the beginning of our new adventure. Three years later, Addy walked into the hospital , entered the room, took one look at her mother in bed,  holding her brother and said “What happened?” Life hasn’t been the same since.

My grandkids have been very fortunate that they had great-grandparents until last year. I loved to watch them interact with them. Addy singing, Wes telling a story. I then realized how happy my parents were to become grandparents, and then great-grandparents.

Grandmas tell the best stories. Addy loves mermaid stories and I try to oblige :)  She always looks up at me after the story and says, “I love you Grandma!”  Wes loves Legos and wants help from Grandpa, building. At four, he wants to be a master builder.

The 1st time I attended their pre-school concerts, and dance recitals, I cried– and every time since. It is pure JOY.  Beautiful artwork is another great perk of being a Grandma. It is cheerfully given and received.

Christmas: Being a Grandma that’s been in retail for over 40 years, I try to follow the latest trends for my family.  Gift giving this last Christmas included Under Armour for all!  We all laughed as Wes shouted,   “We are the Under Armour family!”

How to Dress for a Family Photo

Check out Jordan's 5 tips for looking your best in this year's family photos!

Family photos are amazing keepsakes — but the stories behind them are often tales of hilarious mishaps. From wrinkled clothing to clashing colors, a little fashionable pre-planning can go a long way. Before your next photo shoot, follow these five simple tips to hassle-free — and fabulous — family style.

  1. Stick to a Color Family. No, I’m not suggesting you all wear red. But consider the tones of the colors you are choosing before making your selections. Jewel tones — think emerald green, sapphire blue and ruby red — are a great choice, as primary colors can sometimes look a bit like a box of Crayolas. Neutrals, like black, white, gray and taupe, play well together — and allow for a pop of another color, like yellow or pink, if you want to shake things up. Pastels are also a great spring and summer choice, and flatter most skin tones.Marc Fisher® "Braelin" Dress Sandals

Jordan’s pick: A subtle metallic tone, like light silver or gold, is a great neutral show choice that pairs well with any color family. These Marc Fisher sandals are a great choice. Continue reading →
